Notes to the Editor:

The African Women Leaders Network was launched following a three-day “High-Level Women Leaders Forum for Africa’s Transformation” at the UN Headquarters from 31 May to 2 June 2017, organized by the African Union Commission and UN Women, with the support of the Government of Germany. The forum brought together over hundred women leaders, who are now advocating for leadership of women throughout the African continent, with a focus on peace; stability and development.

The Network aims to harness the wealth of African women’s experiences of leadership, build on other existing and emerging networks of women leaders, as well as develop new partnerships to strengthen the capacity of women. It intends to support the advancement of more women leaders on the continent, through peer learning and mentoring, to enhance their contributions to building and sustaining peace, security and political processes for sustainable economic and social transformation, towards the realization of Africa Agenda 2063 and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Journalists are kindly invited to take part in the press conference on 24 April 2018 at 12:30 to share the common vision of the AU and the UN, the African Women Leaders Network. This press conference is also the opportunity to showcase the objectives and expected outcomes of the Forum, and to emphasize the African Women Leaders voices on issues of peace, security and development in Africa.
