Synthesis Report on the Implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action

The analytical report and policy brief are based on an analysis of country reports and other relevant documents and offers a snapshot of regional trends in terms of the achievements and challenges in the 12 critical areas of concern of the Beijing Platform for Action (BDPfA) besides making some critical recommendations for future action. The report acknowledges and affirms the essential linkages between commitments on gender equality and women’s empowerment (GEWE) in the BDPfA and those in global and regional instruments, including the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), the Maputo Protocol, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
