Study on Women Peace and Security data and capacity gaps in IGAD countries Report on Kenya
In a collaborative effort to strengthen Women, Peace and Security (WPS) data systems in the IGAD region, IGAD and UN Women commissioned seven national consultants to assess existing and potential data sources across Member States. The Kenya Report highlights Kenya’s progress and challenges in advancing the WPS agenda within a dynamic context marked by political, security, climate, and humanitarian complexities. Anchored in the Kenya National Action Plan (K-NAP II), the study reviews institutional roles, data coordination mechanisms, and alignment with IGAD and African Union frameworks. While notable strides have been made—particularly in harmonizing indicators and fostering women’s participation in peacebuilding—significant gaps remain in data quality, coordination, capacity, and resource allocation. The findings underscore the need for a more integrated, well-resourced, and systematic approach to WPS data collection and reporting to inform effective regional and national policy action.
