UN Women’s Feminist Economists Taskforce - 1 Year Results - Gender, Climate Action and the Green Economy
In 2024, UN Women launched the West and Central Africa Feminist Economists Taskforce — a regional flagship initiative aimed at driving normative change through stronger, gender-responsive macroeconomic policies and practices.
As the region navigates the impacts of climate change, the transition to a green economy is accelerating. West and Central African countries are developing low-carbon development pathways that will generate green jobs in sectors such as energy, agriculture, forestry, waste management, transport, and construction. Women and girls play a vital role in climate change mitigation and adaptation — yet they often face barriers to accessing the opportunities this transition creates.
Against this backdrop, the Feminist Economists Taskforce is advancing gender-responsive climate action by placing women at the center of the green transition. Through regional partnerships and technical workshops, the Taskforce is co-creating inclusive policy frameworks, amplifying women’s leadership in climate resilience, and promoting climate justice rooted in equity and sustainability.
This brief highlights the Taskforce’s achievements in gender, climate action, and the green economy during its first phase of implementation.
