Kenya has made progress in human development, as reflected in the improvement of its Human Development Index (HDI) from 0.555 in 2015 to 0.601 in 2023. This puts Kenya in the Medium Human Development Category, positioning it at 146 out of 188 countries and territories.
The 2023/34 Human Development Report calculated Kenya’s Gender Development Index as 0.948, placing it among countries with medium to low equality in human development achievements between women and men. In the 2024 Global Gender Gap Report, Kenya was ranked 75 out of 144 countries in the global index with a score of 0.712.
