The Report documents our work with communities and stakeholders to advance Gender Equality in Zimbabwe, the challenges, interventions and results achieved

From cooking and cleaning, to fetching water and firewood or taking care of children and the sick and the elderly, women do at least two and a half times more unpaid household and care work than their counterparts. As a result,they have less time to engage in paid labour due to working longer hours,combining paid and unpaid labour.

The likelihood of "economic disempowerment" is increased due to the unequal load of unpaid care duties placed on women and the human development outcomes of both the women and those being cared for may be impacted because women in the paid labor market may not be able to adequately fill their caregiving duties (Deepta & Zambelli,2017).

The 2022 in review yearly edition aims at keeping our esteemed readers abreast with the endeavors of the UN Women Rwanda programmatic highlights and achievements throughout the year. It encompasses the period of January through December 2022. Within these pages, we have meticulously curated a selection of activities undertaken by our organization, as well as providing a platform for the voices of those whom we have had the privilege of serving, to be heard. The "Guide and Guidelines on the Protection of Women Human Rights in Africa" is a resource that sets out the legal and policy framework that guarantees the rights of women human rights defenders in Africa and establishes obligations to respect, promote and fulfil these rights by African Member-States.

The assessment focused on HCTs and Cluster Working Groups (CWGs) in recognition of the central role they play in planning and coordinating humanitarian responses. Survey findings showed that the overall knowledge of Gender integration in Humanitarian Action (GiHA) was average, with just over half of the HCTs and Clusters reporting a working knowledge and only one third (33 percent HCTs and 25 percent clusters) reporting comprehensive knowledge.

The study also targeted the staff of judicial offices, such as judges, magistrates, lawyers and prosecutors, and police officers. At the local government level, the study focused on administration officers, including chiefs and local elders. Traditional and religious leaders were also targeted for the study.

This compendium presents select country case studies of good and promising practices in use of gender statistics generated from administrative data for policy and programme interventions as they relate to gender specific SDGs.

Lack of adequate data to inform and monitor policies and progress undermines efforts to move forward Africa's gender agenda. The production of gender statistics in the region has been slow due to a combination of factors discussed in this Plan. However, increased interest in gender statistics and the current conducive policy environment for the their integration into statistical databases provide valuable opportunities to further strengthen statistical systems in Africa.

UNWomen, in collaboration with International Medical Corps (IMC), has been implementing a Programme on Women’s Empowerment in Sexual, Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, and Child and Adolescent Health (SRMNCAH) Rights (POWER) in humanitarian settings in Gambella Region. The purpose of the action research is to document the progress on the SRMNCAH programme implemented in the humanitarian setting, lessons learned from it, gaps in it and efforts required for it. The findings will better inform UN Women and partners working in a humanitarian setting on the current progress and the efforts required to improve SRMNCAH services in the refugee and host communities.

The survey informs the trends to evidence-based and demand-driven approach for ESARO publications. The survey also informs various publication processes, including the implementation of quality assurance guidance and the centralization of the publication process with stronger accountability mechanisms for knowledge production.

The Annual Report captures the work of UN Women in Zimbabwe to accelerate Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment in Zimbabwe. It highlights the organisation's initiatives, challenges and milestones achieved in 2021.

This study builds on UN Women’s achievements and experience in supporting women and girls during the COVID pandemic within the East and Southern Africa Region and other parts of the world.

The five years in review publication captures the progress made from 2017 to 2021 across its different focus areas: Leadership and Political Participation, Women’s Economic Empowerment, Ending Violence Against Women, Data and Statistics, HIV/AIDS and the response to the unfolding crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

UN Women amplified women’s role in the COVID-19 response highlighting the significant leadership roles women played in leading the response efforts in materials on COVID-19 prevention disseminated in local languages and hand washing facilities were constructed in 6 elementary schools. 528 returnee migrant women workers from the Middle East and domestic workers across Addis Ababa have been provided with basic sanitation and hygiene training and raising awareness on the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on women, girls, and vulnerable and marginalized groups.

The Zimbabwe Gender Forum Report discusses topical gender issues emerging from the 2020 annual gender forum held towards the end of 2020. The report aims to inform policy engagements on issues discussed.

This publication describes the UN Women Rwanda Office's effort in dealing with Gender-Based Violence (GBV) victims using different approaches in both GBV prevention and response. It also provides success stories from different beneficiaries in relation to legal assistance which showed that in most cases it requires strong courage from the victims to bring the perpetrators to justice especially in the context of negative cultural beliefs, women's economic dependence, fear of discrimination and stigmatization among other challenges. The document also highlights the role of mobile legal clinic in increasing the proximity of legal services to the community including awareness-raising and legal literacy.

This factsheet offers some insights into migrant women’s experiences in Niger, based on the limited data that is available on this topic. It was prouced as part of the Making Migration Safe for Women programme which aims to ensure that migration is safe for women migrating from, into and through Niger and that international norms and standards for protecting and promoting migrant women’s rights are strengthened.
