30 media professionals (17 women and 13 men), members of the "Gender Data and SDGs Journalists Network", have been trained on data collection and reporting information on gender statistics and SDGs, during a two days capacity building workshop organized by UN Women from the 22nd to the 23rdof July 2019. The workshop which aimed at equipping them with the skills they need to collect, process and disseminate information highlighting gender statistics and the SDGs, ended with the elaboration of an action plan to guide the Network members interventions in the dissemination of gender statistics and the SDGs to inform public opinion in a simple and effective way.

Ms. Valentine Njoroge is a Kenyan journalist and media practitioner. She spoke to UN Women about why it is time to change the narrative of African women in the media. A trustee of the New Faces New Voices program of the Grace Machel Trust, and member of the Women in Media Network's (WIMN) Kenyan Chapter, she conducted a study titled, “Women in Media: what is the narrative?” The launch of the study took place on the margins of the Grace Machel Trust's bi-annual event, Women Advancing Africa (WAA), launched in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, in August 2017.
