Turning tables to empower women small-holder farmers in Tanzania

Kicked off in September 2020, a new Joint Programme implemented by UN Women and UNFPA is targeting vulnerable small-holder farmers in the regions of Shinyanga and Singida, Tanzania. It is set to boost their incomes for economic resilience and agency at the household and community level. Kenyan media powerhouse commits to new partnership for women's empowerment

The Media Compact seeks to accelerate gender equality by providing a framework for media houses to strengthen gender-sensitive reporting and disrupt harmful stereotypes and biases that the industry often perpetuates. Standard Group reaches millions of Kenyans on a daily basis and as a signatory to the compact, will promote gender equality and support the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

During a week-long mission to her native South Africa from 1-5 June, UN Women Executive Director Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka will visit UN Women programmes in the field, take part in a joint workshop for female entrepreneurs, attend the World Economic Forum on Africa 2015 – which she will co-chair this year – where she will call for a new economic agenda that works for women and benefits all, and engage with a range of stakeholders.
