UN Women partnered with the Ministry of Justice to organize a 3-day training for women lawyers in Puntland on 16, 17 and 18 September 2020 which brought together 40 women lawyers from the Puntland women lawyers association and representatives from Women associations in Puntland.

The Uganda Women Parliamentary Association (UWOPA) Executive members visited UN Women to discuss on how the two organization can work together and also strategize on how to advocate for the enactment and passing of the pending gender sensitive bills. The Bills include, the Sexual Offences Bill 2015, Succession Amendment Bill 2018, Marriage and Divorce Bill, and Employment Amendment Bill.

After Kenya’s recent national elections on 4 March, an unprecedented 87 of the 416 seats in the National Assembly and Senate will be held by women. As a new Constitutional requirement to ensure one-third representation, another 52 women will be nominated by 2015.
