UN Women supports the Government of Uganda (GoU) to implement the Public Finance Management Act of 2015 that mandates all ministries, departments, agencies (MDAs) and local governments (LGs) to prioritize gender and equity issues in their plans and budgets and systems accountable on gender equality and women’s empowerment and women’s human rights.

The law provides for the fiscal and macroeconomic management of the country and issues a certificate of compliance to all MDAs and sectors based on their compliance on gender and equity in their plans and budgets. The certificate is issued by the Ministry of Finance Planning and Economic Development in consultation with the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC).

UN Women, through its inter-agency coordination, collaboration, and partnerships with development partners and CSOs supports the government to strengthen its capacity to domesticate all international and regional gender equality normative frameworks into the National Development Plan (NDP), policies and legal frameworks.
