Event description

UN Women is pleased to invite you to the observance of the 2021 International Day of Rural Women Celebrations under the theme ‘Rural women cultivating good food for all’.

In agricultural systems, gender issues remain an unresolved challenge but also an untapped potential for ensuring gender-transformative development processes that target women and other marginalized members of the community. To increase global and regional awareness of the vital role in which rural women and youth play in agriculture and climate action, UN Women in collaboration with COMESA will utilize this year’s International Day of Rural Women under the theme 'Rural women cultivating good food for all' to launch and disseminate the findings of studies, titled The Broken Promise: Analysis of the Benefits Derived by Women from the 10% Agriculture Budget in Selected Countries in East and Southern Africa and Opportunities for Youth in Rural Business and Entrepreneurship in and call to action stakeholders to support rural women and youth to grow their capacities to respond to climate change through agricultural production, food security, and natural resources management. Join us as we engage stakeholders to advance advocacy on gender issues and contributing to efforts in strengthening regional norms and policies on women and youth’s economic empowerment.
