Highlights
Sudan’s current conflict, which marks its one year point on 15 April 2024, is having a devastating impact on the people of Sudan, particularly women and girls. The conflict has reversed the gains made toward democracy and stability, leaving the country in unprecedented suffering and insecurity and while facing a catastrophic humanitarian crisis.
Sudanese women and girls in Sudan are paying a heavy price, bearing the brunt of a humanitarian crisis that remains too invisible to the world.
In the wake of multifaceted crises, the world faces unprecedented challenges in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. The gap in financing for developing countries has expanded notably by 56 %, with a projected deficit of almost $4 trillion, emphasizing the need to seek out inventive and lasting financing methods.
Launched in 2017, the Accelerating Women-Owned Micro Enterprises programme in Southern Africa has equipped more than 2,400 women who own micro-enterprises in Botswana, South Africa, and Namibia with the skills they needed to improve their businesses
UN Women (via its Regional Offices in East and Southern and West and Central Africa) and The Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI) have collaborated to facilitate the Africa Shared Research Agenda for ending GBV (ASRA).
In Kenya and Zimbabwe, authorities and civil society groups are using a wide array of tactics to prevent gender-based violence.As part of UN Women’s Generation Equality Forum Action Coalition on Gender-based Violence, the Government of Kenya and the civil society organization Yes Trust Zimbabwe have each forged their own paths in reducing violence against women and girls.
“As a mother of five, working on the farm all day made it impossible to look after my children and still remain productive, especially with my youngest who needs constant attention”, said Christine Mukamana, who lives in Rwanda’s Nyaruguru district.

This repository provides a collection of UN Women global gender data portals, UN Women East and Southern Africa knowledge products and external gender data portals availed for access and use by various stakeholders in the gender advocacy and policy formulation.
