UN Women, the African Union Commission (AUC) and the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) convened the Africa Virtual Regional Consultation on CSW65 on 22-23 and 26 February 2021.

On 22-23 February 2021, in preparation of the 65th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW65), technical experts from the region will review the CSW65 theme looking at the data on women’s participation in decision-making in public life and on violence against women on the continent. The discussion on experiences, challenges, and achievements will lead to the adoption of the Africa Common Position and key messages on the CSW65 priority theme.

The Technical Consultation will be followed by a Ministerial Consultation on 26 February, where Ministers of the AU Member States and High-Level Representatives from Regional Economic Communities, the UN System, CSOs and other relevant stakeholders will discuss and adopt the Africa Common Position prior to CSW65. During the Ministerial consultation, the African Union Commission will launch the first African Union Strategy on Gender Equality and Women’ Empowerment.
