UN Women in collaboration with the Ministry of Women and Social Affairs in Ethiopia organized a refresher training session and policy dialogue with members of the House of People’s Representatives’ Health, Social Development, Culture, and Sports Standing Committee, as well as the Budget and Finance Standing Committee on 25 May 2024 in Bishoftu town. The dialogue aimed to discuss solutions for ensuring that policies and budgetary decisions are designed and implemented equitably. A key outcome of the dialogue was a renewed commitment from committee members and a consensus on the need for a legal framework to enforce the Gender Budget Statement (GBS).

Enat bank, also known as Women’s bank, a private commercial bank established by Ethiopian women, confirmed its commitment to advance Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment by becoming a signatory to the Women’s Empowerment Principles(WEPs) over a year ago. The bank envisions to maximize and promote female capability in economic inclusion since its establishment over sixteen years ago. According to the bank’s managers, partnering with UN Women and being a signatory have contributed to advance the bank’s performance than ever before. These include from tripling its number of branches country wide with gender departments to becoming the pioneer trusted gender focused financial institution supporting women to access gender-responsive financial and non-financial services as well as to technically support other banks, private sectors and non-governmental organizations engaged in socio-economic empowerment of women at country and regional levels.

UN Women DRC sat down with Henric Råsbrant, Swedish Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo since 2019, to talk about this long-standing partnership and, evidently, the topic of this year's 16 Days of Activism. His message: the 16 days are a time to remember that we must UNITE and invest our time and efforts to continually fight against gender-based violence, and break the silence on this subject.

UN Women Ethiopia Country Office (ECO), as part of its 2021-2025 Strategic Plan sets out to address the root causes of gender inequalities and affect broader systems change, including by supporting financing for gender equality. In alignment with the global Strategic Plan, ECO is working towards ensuring a gender-responsive financing system within Ethiopia's public finance management system.

On 25 th January 2018, UN Women in partnership with Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) of Uganda launched Gender and Equity Budgeting reference tools for sector Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs). The tools were launched by the Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development, Hon. Janat Mukwaya at Hotel Africana in Kampala.
