FACT SHEET: MAKING MIGRATION SAFE FOR WOMEN PROGRAMME
Image

As a country of origin, transit and destination for migrants, Ethiopia has witnessed international movements of women, men, girls and boys. In Ethiopia, migration is a highly gendered phenomenon, with women and girls making up 46 per cent of migrants leaving Ethiopia as well as 50 per cent of those migrants living in Ethiopia. With women’s rate of unemployment more than double than that of men (11.7 per cent versus 5 per cent), migration is considered by many Ethiopian women as an opportunity to escape economic hardship.
The factsheet provides a brief overview of the Making Migration Safe for Women programme implementation focus, activities and stakeholders involved.
