This publication comprehensively analyzes the country’s gender equality and women empowerment (GEWE) situation across Kenya’s diverse areas and contexts. The study examines the differences in the status and conditions of the diverse groups of boys, girls, and men and women across the country’s cultural, geographical and environmental contexts. It highlights deeply entrenched discriminatory social and gender norms, sexual and gender-based violence and harmful practices, and the slow progress in women’s political participation and leadership. Furthermore, it assesses the manifestations and impacts of gender inequality and the intersection with other grounds: age, ethnicity, education, belief, disability, Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) status, migration status, and rural-urban differences.
