South Sudan Women's Charter

Under the leadership of the Ministry of Gender, Child, and Social Welfare, in collaboration with the Ministry of Peace Building, and with support from UN Women and funding from the Peacebuilding Fund, the Government of the Netherlands, and the Government of Norway, the Women’s Charter has been crafted with inputs from participants across the nation. This Charter empowers women and girls to engage with the Reconstituted National Constitutional Review Commission (R-NCRC) and articulate their concerns in the Permanent Constitution-making process. The formal lauch of the Women's Charter took place on May 29, 2024 in Juba. The Charter articulates the essential priorities and demands of women and girls for the Permanent Constitution, advocating for comprehensive legal, policy, and programmatic interventions across twelve critical themes: political participation, education, marriage, property ownership and inheritance, health and reproductive rights, economic and social welfare rights, equality and freedom from discrimination, protection of the elderly and women with disabilities, protection against Gender-Based Violence (GBV), access to justice, environment, natural resources and climate security, and public finance management reforms.
