The Zimbabwe Gender Commission, through the 2023 Gender Observatory conducted a long-term election observation exercise from March 2023 to August 2023. The methodology employed for the 2023 Gender Observatory involved long-term electoral observation, field visits, structured data collection tools, and one-on-one interviews with relevant key informants. The work covered all electoral processes, including the Biometric Voter Registration Process, Primary elections, Nomination Court Process, Campaigns, Voter education, the Polling process and the pre-election phase. The work of the 2023 Gender observatory further assessed internal political party process such as the candidate selection process. Findings revealed that candidate selection processes utilised by different political parties were not conducive for increasing women’s participation as political parties did not have measures in place for facilitating increased women participation.
