In Nigeria, the HeForShe campaign was officially launched on the 23rd of May 2017 by the Acting President, His Excellency, Professor Yemi Osinbajo. The launch was facilitated by the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development and supported by UN Women. The National Launch paved the way for the campaign launches in Plateau, Gombe, and Adamawa states in the same year with Yobe and Borno states in December 2018 and March 2019.

In 2020, the Lagos state government launched the campaign to advocate for women's rights; most recently, the Cross River State, Nigeria joined this innovative campaign.

The government and other stakeholders in these states, including traditional and religious leaders, heads of security agencies, civil society organizations and gender advocates, are committed to attaining the set goal for the movement.
