This study and brief aim at providing insights on how gender and other intersecting inequalities impact the risk and vulnerability to HIV for women and girls in Africa. Secondly, the review aims to provide key recommendations to the AU and partners on integrating gender equality, women’s empowerment and Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights into the existing AU architecture, through strategic, planning, budgeting and implementing processes to address the gender-related barriers and challenges in the HIV response.
