Africa Programme on Gender Statistics (APGS) Phase III Strategic Plan (2022-2026)
Lack of adequate data to inform and monitor policies and progress in Africa often undermines the implementation of development policies and programmes to move forward the gender agenda. However, African countries and gender statistics stakeholders have given increasing attention to the promotion, production, and use of gender statistics as an important tool for measuring and thus supporting progress towards achieving SDG 5 on gender equality and women’s empowerment. The Africa Programme on Gender Statistics (APGS) is one such initiative.
Implemented by regional organizations, international agencies, regional economic communities, and civil society organizations, the APGS is an umbrella regional programme coordinated by core implementing partners currently comprising the African Union Commission (AUC), UNECA, UN Women, and the African Development Bank (AfDB).
This Strategic Plan summarizes how the APGS III plans to ensure that by 2026, African Members States will have strengthened their national gender statistics capacities to improve gender indicators for sustainable development.
