Climate-related disasters are increasingly frequent and intense, exacerbating socio-economic vulnerabilities, particularly for women, children, the elderly, and People Living With Disabilities (PLWDs). In 2024, UN Women collaborated with UNDRR and UNFPA to produce the Sendai Gender Action Plan (GAP), further strengthening gender mainstreaming in DRR. Through its Women Resilience to Disasters (WRD) programming, with support from the Australian government, UN Women conducted a cross-border gender assessment in Malawi, Zimbabwe and Mozambique. This assessment documents the differentiated impacts of climate disasters on women and men, identifies capacity development needs and highlights entry points for enhancing gender integration in DRR efforts.
